All major international rental companies can be found in Tunisia. Vehicles can be booked locally or pre-booked from the UK. Petrol is cheap and there is no shortage of petrol stations. Vehicles drive on the right, the roads are generally good, with signs in Arabic with French/International translations.

If you are taking your car to Tunisia this requires a green card, car log book and international or EU driving licence. Insurance is compulsory, and is obtainable on arrival in the port of La Goulette (Tunis).

Local services are extremely good value and the network covers most of the country.

Louage taxis

These are shared taxis going to a fixed destination, which leave when they're full.

Cheap and readily available in all main beach resorts. All cabs have meters.

Rail travel is excellent value and a great way to see the country. The service is reliable and links many towns and cities. A 7 day rail card allows unlimited travel on all routes with unlimited entry to all public museums and monuments. Cards can be bought for about £15 for second-class travel from any main train station in Tunisia, and requires two-passport photographs. Timetables are available from any main train station.
